Cheap Gaming Laptop for College - Alienware Area-51 m5550 laptop
Looks familiar? Yes, the cool Alienware gaming laptop is what we all want ... and the Alienware Area-51 m5550 laptop appears to be quite cheap as of September, 2007. Only $1099 with basic configuration, including shipping. As I did my research, the Area-51 m5550 laptop is the only cheap gaming laptop on the market (at least I haven't found any other yet) that comes with a discrete (or dedicated) graphics card for only close to $1000. This must be a real bargain as it comes to cheap gaming laptops. For the above price, the Alienware Area-51 m5550 is equipped with the 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphic card, 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM memory, 80GB Serial ATA 5400 RPM hard drive and is running on Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 1.66GHz (2MB Cache 667MHz FSB).
It is fast and is excellent for watching movies and photo-video editing. If you're beginner to intermediate game player than this cheap gaming laptop is what you want.
The 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card is ranked as 'mainstream' graphics solution meaning that it can play pretty much any video game while delivering better than integrated (non-dedicated) graphics picture quality and faster image rendering. For a cheap gaming laptop, m5550 is the best value, especially for college where you don't want to get too busy with playing games or spending too much money.
Just as a comparison, Dell XPS gaming laptops, for example, with basic configuration start from around $1300 and are equipped with the integrated graphics. Alienware
