World’s Thinnest Widescreen Laptop - Toshiba Portege R500 laptop
With its wafer-thin design and sleek silhouette, the 0.77-inch, 1.72-pound Toshiba Portege R500 laptop is the lightest widescreen laptop PC. Even with the integrated DVD Super-Multi drive, at 2.4 pounds, the Portege R500 is still the lightest laptop of its kind. Touted as the “world’s thinnest widescreen,” the Portege R500 laptop is the first to include a 7-mm optical drive and a 12.1-inch indoor/outdoor transreflective backlit LED screen with 1,280-by-800 resolution. The base model, the Portege R500 S5001X laptop, comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 with 1.2GHz and 1,024 MB of memory, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, PC Card slots, PC Express slot, media port, docking connections and iLINK. The finger print reader and security cable lock slot ensure security. The next model up - the S5002 - offers better battery life and Windows Vista. Further up the scale, the S5003 model holds the world-record for weight with a 64GB solid state drive. At the top rung, the S5004 laptop features 2+GB of RAM and the DVD burner. The Portege R500 ranges in price from $1,999 to $2,999. Toshiba.
